Leonardo Dicaprio wasn’t the only big name at the People’s Climate March- Betty was there, too!
In preparation of the UN Climate summit, tens of thousands of activists, politicians, celebrities, and, yes, a Betty, marched in the streets of New York City to call world leaders to take action against climate change. Peggy Gilges, a C’ville resident and loyal Betty, had this to say about the event:
“It was overcast and cool, but the mood was sunny, as people of all ages and stripes flocked out of subway stations to join the People’s Climate March on Central Park West Sunday morning. Representatives of organizations and institutions from all over the country converged in a colorful, good-natured and determined effort to encourage bold action by international leaders attending the United Nations Climate Summit this week in New York.
Marchers filled Central Park West from above 86th Street to Columbus Circle (59th) and proceeded on Central Park South, down 6th Avenue through Times Square and then west on 34th Street, finishing up at 11th Avenue. Supporters lined the parade route as the marchers made their way (and their statements—such an array of signs and costumes, musicians and voices!) through the City. At least two busloads of C’villians made the trip to New York to participate on behalf of present and future generations of earthlings.
It was a vibrant and spirited display of forces united for action, and a thrill for this Betty to be in the thick of it!”
