HOME NEEDS

Buildings account for one third of our total energy use, raw materials use, green house gas emissions and waste output. We must make better choices when it comes to building, remodeling and repairing our homes.

Currently LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), www.usgbc.org/LEED is the most stringent level of green building, (beware of larger upfront costs, but this may save you lots over time), followed by Earth Craft House Virginia www.earthcrafthouse.org (smaller scale changes with a focus on energy). Some businesses may simply put a LEED AP on staff or receive certification as a marketing tool, so do your homework!
